In the similar boat.. I received sms/email on 13th that 485 has been approved but have not received any welcome/approval letter till date. I am on H1b. It has expired and I don't have Advance Parole also. I need to travel urgently in first week of June 2011. I was thinking of getting my H1b stamped during the trip, but since that's not possible what are my options???
I called my lawyers office but really didn't get any sound reply... seems like that lost interest once I told them I am not filing EAD/AP and GC is approved

Ok, how sure is your lawyer about what he is saying?
I know a person who was exactly in this situation. He was given 221g and while he was waiting got his AP approval and he entered US using that. I am not sure what he did is right or wrong, but atleast it worked and he is in US.
I will recommend you to talk to one more attorney. May be murthy/rajeev khanna office?
(BTW, if you agree with that i said, please rate this post as 'approve' using the small scale icon on upper right corner. I am trying to get rid of these red dots which i got for no good reason)

In my case I applied for the AP in the us but it was approved and sent to me after I left the US. My lawyer says that it needs to be approved before I leave the US and therefore cannot use it. Did not want to create any sensational news, but this is what I gathered from speaking to an IO. I had applied for my EAD on Jan 25th and havent received any updates. So, I called the NSC customer service and an IO informed me that I need to check back with them in another 60 days if no decision is made by that time. When I said that it would be 6 months by that time, the IO said that "that's right. Each IO has about 500 applications on their desk and it will take some time to clear these off"
Just wanted to update everyone so that all the June/July filers can file appropriately.
Again, mine could be an isolated case. So, please dont panic::))

I contribute just 2-4% as I don't get company match. Regardless if you get a match, I know some friends who prefer to put it in India/mother's fixed deposit accounts for 8-10% interest, or if you have a PF account still open its an option. Property prices there too may shoot up in some areas, giving a good return, while here they may stay stagnant for many years.
Some banks allow NRIs to trade stocks or mutual funds in India too.
The only reason for 401K is if you plan to retire here.
Liquidity is a big problem as you have to quit the company for withdrawal from 401K. Some 401Ks give you loan at 2-3% interest. Its kind of strange because its your own money.
What sort of PF acount? Is this only for Govt employees? or can an NRI deposit in some sort of public PF fund? I know PF gives almost 10% interest and it is tax free when cashed at retirement, right?

I basically used my bird settings, I think I should probably lower the shutter speed a little, don't know how much though as I don't like blurry shots. I would like to be able to do panning with long shutter times but I'm really bad at it, the few times I've tried everything is blurry.
EDIT: Lens was 300/2.8L IS, my favourite, I went to this practice track mainly to get to use it again as it has been sitting on a shelf for a while, waiting for some summer sports. :)

How long the old I-140 needs to be valid ? Should it be valid only until one gets the new I-140 cleared with the Old PD ? Or does it needs to be valid until the 485 is filed and status is adjusted ?

on H4, you can do only volunteer work without pay. Other than that you sleep or sit idle/watch TV.

Wow, I feel you. I've been in such situation. How big your company is? Whose lawyer is taking care of your case - yours or employer's? Try to contact the lawyer directly. Do you know if any violation regarding working conditions your employer has? If they are on shaky ground, you can be more aggressive with them. You can have several ways of pushing them.
Maybe it's late for you now. But after my first employer's games, when I joined my second employer I demanded at the very beginning that I will have my lawyer and everything will go through him. Only when I got my H1b through my lawyer I joined them.
When I placed my "two weeks notice" my ex-boss was walking after me, begging not to leave. When I left, they threatened me with lawsuits. Never filed any after I mentioned him about hiring illegaly few guys and pointing on some other violations they had.

In case of NOC codes you can only try to make sure you have same / similar duties , In case of parent labor you can see your Job code but not the new one. This is what i think , try to make justification on Job duties ...

If yes on both, then my attorney recommended to send a letter to the consulate instructing them to withdraw your H1B stamping application, then with a copy of that letter in hand, along with the AP, reenter the US on AP. Good luck!

We should get a group of folks asking for reinstatement of I-140 premium processing. This SINGLE administrative move will enable high skilled workers on many counts. Legal interfiling cases can be expedited, and non interfilers can be one step closer to getting their I-485's with EAD cards should there be future retrogression.
Also, the reality of revenue gained from premium processing cannot be ignored. Ok, dont keep it at 15 days, make is 30 or even 45 days. But dont take it away in its entirety.
I would sincerely request even EB2's that have current dates to join in requesting I-140 premium processing. This should not negatively intersect with any of your interests.
