We have received our I-485 receipts(me and spouse). On my receipt just below "Amount Received" there is a this tag called "Section". It is answered as "UNKNOWN" on both of our receipts.
My friends is answered differently. His is from TSC and mine are from NSC.
Does any of you know what does "UNKNWON" mean and what consequences it might have.

My parents came on Jan 10th on Luft from Bangalore and they did not need a transit visa. I hear that the only time you may need a transit visa is when you are traveling to India on an expired US Visa. Even over this there is confusion.

I can see it in my browser. Good news for NSC as most of the dates moved significantly. Expecting to get news on my I-140 by May 2008 or earlier.

The points for to-do-list after GC by Samswas are great..Just a little comment as I talked to my attorney now...
DON'T throw away, rather keep your I-94, as you never know, until you get citizenship, what documents you may need to show in which circumstances varifying legal status leading to GC... It is just a word of caution not to discard the I-94 but to archive safely, but he is right that we should not give it to airline official....

i just lost my job and had an approved LC with that company. i have been extending my h1 for the past 3 years now. my i 140 was withdrawn when it was first applied as the company did not give all the information when my lawyer was preparing it the second time the company gave a lot of wrong information. my current h1 expirs in dec

Very sorry to hear about the job loss. I believe USCIS gives about 60 days for H-1B applicants. Please try hard to get another job within this time and apply for H-1B to stay with correct status. Without approved I-140, your earlier LC can not be used for porting old priority date.

so bottom line is that Given name becomes first name and LNU relplaces surname (last name)
I do not know if it is correct but this is the way they have filed for me.

Your post is confusing. Can you please add details. Is her visa (stamping) denied or her I 797 (H4 approval I forget the number its I5XX something) that was not approved? I am assuimg its the later. Any case its always prudent to exit the country immediately in order to maintain status.

By the way - harrdr , I'm exactly in the same situation - PD May '08 , I-140 approved and i have a very enticing full time offer from a Major financial firm. But i don't want to jeopardize my chances to get a GC in the next couple of yrs ( given that EB2 dates have moved forward substantially last month).
Please keep me in loop in case you find anything else about the situation. I'll do the same.

I don't know about the wide angle lenses, but I don't think that would help that much in the dof problem you have.
Use this DOF calculator for your camera:
http://dfleming.ameranet.com/dofjs.html
The Sony at 38mm 12 inches away at f8 give you a near of of 11.8 and a far of 12.1. At 28mm 12 inches away you can get a near of 11.7 and far of 12.3.
If you play a bit with the calculator there, you can get an idea of the dof you can achieve with or without the wide angle lenses.

I believe its actually a 9.7mm-48.5mm lens and these numbers should be used for calculating the DOF, unless the calculator says otherwise. In this case you can obtain the DOF that Daniel desires and it may actually be easier with a digicam than with an SLR based camera. AHHH I thinkI just suggested a digicam is better than a SLR.

I have given my real estate agent several referrals and for each I receive a cash amount. I'm on an H1B visa, am I able to receive income from someone other than my employer?
I've searched the web and have been able to find out that this should be reported as taxable income, I'm just not sure if I can receive it due to my immigration status.
Any comments or tips are welcome.
You are supposed to report ALL income regardless of its legal validity or not. Having said that, legally you are not allowed to have any other income other than from your H1B sponsoring company. I dont know though how this compares to the other deals wherein you open a Bank A/c and get 200 bucks and others like that.
Another point you may want to find out more is if your real estate agent is showing the amount paid to you as an expense or not.
And finally, I hope whoever you referred did get a full disclosure from you that you might be compensated for the referral :-)

There are some companies that enter into agreements with ppl like that. Of course it is not legal and of course it's exploitative and predatory.. but depends what was decided.. If his employer offered with 100K on paper but talked abt this type of arrangement verbally (assuming he got sub labor at the same time ) it might make sense.. in any other case.. he's getting ripped off and better that he sues the employer.. merely credible threat of lawsuit should make the company pay..
